Laura Mulvey - Male Gaze

Laura Mulvey's theory on the male gaze is very popular throughout all the books and essays that i have read so far. She is a feminist and believes "Narrative fiction film created images of women used for the gratification of men."

Her theory of the male gaze is really interesting and i think i will mention this quite a lot within my essay. Especially horror and action films show this quite a lot, their target audience are mainly males and the camera angles and shots are directly for the male gaze. Close-ups of the female body, their death and shower scenes etc. that give no purpose to developing the plot of the film, except to appeal to the male audience. This is more exaggerated when shots of the male are somewhat minimal and less fleshy.
